The American chestnut once lived across 180 million acres of the Appalachian Mountains and was a primary component of Pennsylvania’s forests. Plant importation brought a devastating fungal disease that all but eliminated the species from its original range. Researchers at Penn State are on the forefront to restore this species, exploring the many facets required for reintroduction of disease-resistant populations. Join Sara at the Orchard for this on-site talk on the restoration of the American Chestnut tree.
