The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (PRB) was the first avant-garde movement to reject conventional painting and promote a new aesthetic based on nature, intricate compositions, and vibrant color. Founding members included W. Holman Hunt, J.E. Millais, and D.G. Rossetti. The PRB influenced F. Maddox Brown and A. Hughes, whose paintings also reflected the Victorian obsession with women’s roles in society. In addition to works by the artists already mentioned, more traditional compositions by E. Landseer and A. Egg will be shown.
